Master's thesis submitted for the completion of my master's degree in Cultural Studies from SOAS, University of London. Applying Antonio Gramsci's theory of cultural hegemony to South Korean society in the 20th century, I argue that the hegemonic form of masculinity during this time was controlled by the upper classes through mass media, including movies and radio, for economic gain.
